You're probably right, but an explosive is not the only way to bring a plane down. I've worked in aviation for 15 years, and I can tell you that if someone is determined they'll find a way. Usually explosive detectors look for traces of particular chemicals. Terrorists, with their funding and research are always looking for ways to be 1 step ahead, I'm sure given time and money you could make almost anything in to an explosive. Liquid & Gel (LAG) rules now prevent large quantities of liquids which could be combined onboard to make liquid explosives, but where does it end? explosives could be just chemicals mixed, plastics all sorts of things then what about weapons? you can buy ceramic knives with plastic handles, these don't make metal detectors beep. Go even further, you can buy duty free at an airport, how much damage can a broken bottle cause? Where will it end? Maybe say no carry on luggage, give all the guys a pair of swimming trunks and girls a bikini to wear onboard. |
